Washington County Governmental Services and Information

JB#2 AMD Treatment System Redesign Complete:
The treatment system, located in the Raccoon Creek watershed in Smith Township, has been redesigned to more efficiently remove iron, aluminum, and manganese from an abandoned mine discharge which previously flowed directly into a tributary of Raccoon Creek.  The upper treatment pond has been extended and a new drainage system installed.  For more information on JB#2 and other AMD systems, visit the datashed.org project page.

The project was funded by a DEP Growing Greener grant, and work was completed by BKG Industries.  Thanks also to Independence Conservancy, Moran Excavating, and the Raccoon Creek Watershed Association.

Washington County Fair - August 15-22:
Conservation District staff will be present throughout the fair.  Come and see our streamflow model, pick up some information, and check out the watershed association displays!

For more information on the fair visit the official website.

2009 Envirothon Winners!
The Washington County Envirothon was held on April 20.  Ringgold took first place for the fourth consecutive year, California came in second, and McGuffey came in third.  Congratulations to all the teams!  Click the pictures below for more information on the Envirothon.

Ag Days:
Conservation District staff was at Ag Days at Washington Crown Center Mall on March 13-14.  It was once again a very successful event, and many folks stopped by to ask questions and pick up some information.

E&S Techs Shannon Miles and Matt Golden show off our (new and improved!) streambank erosion model, and District Manager Gary Stokum stands by at our information table.
